THA SOUL BROTHER - SANDY ANDERSON
WHO HE IS:
Sandy “Tha Soul Brother” Anderson is a member of an elite class of musicians—THE GIFTED. The world's most versatile bass player, BAR NONE. Blessed with incredible talent, he can, literally, play any kind of music, anywhere, anytime, without rehearsal, and play it perfectly!
Born in the Bronx, playing the saxophone his mother scrimped and saved to buy for him at age 14, he instantly became a local hero, in demand by several local bands. He began playing bass guitar and increased his demand. (His mother painted a mustache on him so he could get into the clubs where he played).
EXPERIENCE:
Writing songs and performing as Bass Player and Background Vocalist in “Unlimited Touch” gave him a brief taste of fame and exposure to the darker side of the music business. Artists and writers were not always adequately or fairly compensated for their work and missed out on royalties over the years. Lessons were learned that were carried through life.
Over the years he has played with many successful artists, including: ONE WAY, SKKY, GARY “U.S.” BONDS, WILSON PICKETT, DUKE ELLINGTON BAND, THE DRIFTERS, LITTLE ANTHONY, THE STRYKERS, SYLVESTER, CALYPSO ROSE, SANDY AND PAPO, PROYECTO UNO, GROOVE THEORY, INDIGALAS, MARION MEADOWS, EVELYN “CHAMPAGNE” KING, BABA OLATUNJI, OMAR HAKIM, MIKE CLARKE, FREDDIE JACKSON, MELISSA MORGAN, PHYLLIS HYMAN, THE COASTERS, CROWN HEIGHTS AFFAIR, CAB CALLOWAY, SLAVE.
You can hear his unique bass and vocal style on:
Proyecto Uno – Four (1999)
M.O.P. – Firing Squad (1996)
France Joli – Now (1994)
Unlimited Touch – Unlimited Touch (1993)
Entouch – All Nite (1989)
Enchantment – Enchanted Lady (1982)
Odyssey – Happy Together (1982)
My biggest hero:
When asked who he admires, Sandy does not hesitate. My biggest hero is JACO PASTORIUS, an all-time great among bass players, a legend in his own time, whose career was far too short for those of us who loved to hear him play. And Jaco could PLAY…
"I was privileged to study under him. His death was a personal loss.”
Sandy studied under Percy Jones, (Brand X), another hero. He admires many other bass players, including Victor Wooten, Stu Hamm, Brian Bromberg, Bill Dickens, Jeff Berlin, Reggie Wooten, Doug Wimbush, T.M. Stevens, Stanley Banks, and Anthony Jackson.
SHOW SOME LUV has arrived! This double CD is packed with R&B and Cool Jazz hits that have taken the art of making music to another level. The music world is indeed blessed to have the incredible talent of Sandy “Tha Soul Brother” Anderson and now you have the opportunity to reap the benefits of his hard work and immerse yourself in some of the best music out there.
